Having been crowned Wales’ undisputed floral champion for the ninth time last year, the “Gardener’s Calendar” has been developed in support of the city’s Newport in Bloom campaign. Artist Sebastian Brooke, who designed and carved the sculpture, was joined by local school children to explain the sources of inspiration for his artwork, as well as the process of creating the piece. The unveiling of the artwork follows many years of improvement work within the park. The adult lives of these brothers have taken very different turns and rumbling away are the echoes of a long-gone disaster – the Wall Street crash.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS AT THE RIVERFRONT!

Using only Charles Dickens' extraordinary words and a chameleon ensemble of eight actors, Neil Bartlett's powerful stage version of this much-loved story brings its settings and characters to thrilling theatrical life. From its opening image of little Pip, alone on the windswept marshes, to the haunted darkness of mad Miss Haversham's cobweb-strewn lair, this brand-new adaptation especially commissioned by Aberystwyth Arts Centre takes its audience on a journey right to the heart of Dickens' great exploration of childhood terrors and hopes - and of adult dreams and regrets. Neil Bartlett is one of the country's leading theatre-makers; his previous adaptations have been staged by the RSC and the National as well as regional theatres across Britain and America. Award winning director Alan Lyddiard was until last year Artistic Director of Northern Stage Ensemble, his recent productions touring to Wales have included Animal Farm and George Orwell's 1984. Alan started a two-year bursary, awarded by Arts Council England, in January of this year. The bursary allows Alan to work on a range of international arts projects as well as exploring new ways of working as a creative artist.
